Flagged for tone

[edit]

I have flagged the article today for its tone. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not software documentation. As such, explanations of how to use PHPDoc, and the informal, instructive tone in sentences such as "How can phpDocumentor tell the difference between a Page-level DocBlock and any other DocBlock? Simple..." are inappropriate for reference material. It reads more like a tutorial, with myriad examples. Someone may have put a lot of work into that, but it's inappropriate for the nature of Wikipedia and should not be part of this article. I'm happy to start a discussion around this here in the chat, and perhaps some editors would like to contribute to reworking the article. --Sbutler (talk) 09:22, 22 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Inappropriate tone indeed, and for good reason — it's a copy-paste from the tutorial in phpDocumentor's own manual; see here. I removed the entire section, it'd surely be easier to write anew than retool it with the appropriate tone, and the original text is available on phpDocumentor's website for those that want it. Sadly there's not much left without that part, but what remains seems OK style-wise so I'm going to remove the tone flag. —— Jonathan FarnhamJ 12:22, 10 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

I could be wrong, but the external link seems to be pointing to the wrong phpdoc site? I believe the official site is http://www.phpdoc.org/. Right now it points to www.phpdoc.de which seems to be something similar based upon the "official" version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.241.248.188 (talk) 15:49, 6 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, fixed. II | (t - c) 08:35, 6 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
http://phpdoc.de isn't "something similar based upon" phpdoc.org. that is a beta version from 2001 and was possibly also using the format. http://phpdoc.org is actually phpDocumentor and not a page about the format. The phpDocumentor binary is also called phpdoc. The phpdoc beta from 2001 is probably not relevant anymore. --JonnyJD (talk) 17:22, 4 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
