Cost-effectiveness of outcomes research
[edit]Recently (12/29/2015), this sentence was removed:
- Unproven cost-effectiveness: Ironically, no one has measured whether spending money on outcome studies improves medical care, compared to funding research directly on the underlying conditions.
I question the rationale for the deletion.
Do DALYs and QALYs not consider cost when informing policy about other possible 'public spending' (education, infrastructure investments, renewable energy, climate planning, etc.)? Might one instead say:
- Cost-effectiveness: Measuring the utility, specifically relative cost-effectiveness, of outcome studies is challenging.[citation needed]
Don't some researchers worry that their research might not be effectively translated into improved evidence-based practice?[citation needed]
