Splitting

Should it be mentioned that the road splits into eastbound and westbound lanes that are routed onto different streets (I'm sure there is some sort of technical name for this) in downtown Hillsboro, Cornelius, and Forest Grove? So in downtown Hillsboro it is both Baseline and Oak streets. Aboutmovies (talk) 22:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Looks like we have duplicate info in this page with the pages Oregon Route 8 and Oregon Route 47. it's easy enough to say it's signed a certain way in the context of those articles (as at least one does now), and the current road system (as IDd in Oregon highways and routes) prefers the route 8/47 designations for the general public. Unsure: This may conflate Gales Creek Road with TV Hwy which runs north instead of south. As the roads and routes are different things, It may be good to focus more on the purpose and history of the route, rather than the significant signed roads themselves (with their own articles). Routes could include select summaries of the notable roads and then supplement this with info on less "notable or less detailed segments" (which could eventually have their own article) . For instance, this might be a good place to add some info on Gales Creek Road since it is not necessarily notable due to being a rural road and not technically a highway but still makes up almost a 1//3 of the route.
Any connections between the early Astoria Military trail as well as the Wilson River Toll Road might be interesting aspects to include as well as how the introduction of the Highway 6 connector affected it's usage. This particular section of route is an important facet of Oregon's early settlement and logging history. It seems the route was essentially the connection from Portland to Forest Grove including the way along the wagon and log skid trails to the Timber Country. From there the wagon route seemed to continued to the Town of Timber or perhaps wrapped around the East to Hayward due to decay and then along the approximate path of the "military" trail to Astoria. These aspects could be linked to in the article to provide a better understanding of why the routes were established to begin with. The Highway 47 route also changed roads with old Highway 47 being an example. The history of the routes and the history of the development of the roads are often significant in their own aspect and are related but not necessarily the same.
