Oregon Tech's classification as a University

[edit]

According to the state of Oregon, OIT/Oregon Tech is legally considered "Oregon's Polytechnic University", See HB 2472. "Whereas Oregon Tech, as a technological university...Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon: SECTION 1. Oregon Institute of Technology is designated and shall be known as Oregon’s Polytechnic University.". Passed in 2021. SSpleef (talk) 07:54, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for sharing this! It's interesting that, five year later, the institution still appears to be using its old name.
With that said, we're not obligated to follow the lead of a subject or others associated with it. We're usually more interested in what independent sources say, sometimes the majority or plurality of those sources. For example, it's pretty common for their to be a lag between official or self-declared changes and when those changes become substantive and recognized by independent reliable sources. And it's not uncommon for a subject to declare that a change has occurred and for reliable sources to ignore that declaration in favor of the available evidence. From my understanding, "Oregon's Polytechnic University" is not a replacement name, but simply a designation or alternative title for the school, which still uses Oregon Tech or Oregon Institute of Technology SSpleef (talk) 06:28, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
