is Irini facing clorusere ?

[edit source]

The EU monitoring mission "IRINI" in the Mediterranean, which is intended to enforce a United Nations arms embargo against Libya and combat irregular migration to Europe, is facing closure, according to a media report. This was reported today by "Welt am Sonntag" according to a preliminary report citing diplomatic sources.

According to an internal document of the European External Action Service (EEAS), an emergency meeting on the extension of the UN mandate between high-ranking EU representatives and the Libyan government on June 30th failed to make any concrete progress, according to "Welt am Sonntag."

The consensus was simply: "The internationally recognized Government of National Accord in Libya is, as things stand, no longer willing to renew the invitation to continue the operation."

According to the EU report, the Government of National Accord reiterated its reservations about extending the mandate at the meeting, despite various offers from Brussels. (source: https://orf.at/#/stories/3400103/ ) 62.143.251.185 (talk) 17:29, 19 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
