Clarity of the article

DDE

I have a little bit confusion in " what is the main difference between the OPC and DDE comunication"? Can any one help me?

DDE use clipboard to store data temporarily and retrives on particular interval while OPC is used for realtime processes like handshaking for any query contact me madina.imran@yahoo.com

In computing, Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) is a technology for interprocess communication used in early versions of Microsoft Windows and OS/2. DDE allows programs to manipulate objects provided by other programs, and respond to user actions affecting those objects. DDE was partially superseded by Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), and is currently maintained in Windows systems only for the sake of backward compatibility.

OPC was originally based on OLE, COM, and DCOM, so a different technology stack.

DDE does not rely on the clipboard.

OPC now Open Process Collaboration?

Hasn't the official meaning of OPC changed to Open Process Collaboration?

That is what Nathan Pocock claimed in the software developer radio show ".NET Rocks" on 2008-08-07 (it is also stated on the associated web page - see the last link below),

What does OPC stand for?

Well I guess the name of the article is completely wrong. The Source given for the reason of the name "Open Platform Communications" shows a text, where this name is not mentioned once . So it is completely incorrect. The OPC Foundation still doesn't have full name for OPC. It seems to be just three letters with a historical meaning and that's it. --Neto-Zeme (talk)
