Prescient description of the aftermath of Hurricane Helene
[edit]On 9/27/2024 Hurricane Helene forced the Swannanoa River and the French Broad River over their banks, cutting off a large part of Swannanoa from the outside world. Cell phone communication was disabled for several days. Bridges were washed out, landslides and washouts made road impassable. Food, water and fuel had to be airlifted into the community.
