[edit]i don't have the technical knowledge of wikipedia to fix the cition. i was trying to like this pdf using the ISSN number ISSN 0737-0679 but that didn't work. it sadly is a important citation for the paragraph so it cant simply be delated. Lavender-wikigirl (talk) 18:49, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

In 1878, Machado de Assis, a renowned Brazilian writer of the 19th century, made one of the first known uses to date in Portuguese of the term omnisexual for his criticism of the novel O Primo de Basílio by Eça de Queirós. The review was published in the newspaper of the time, O Cruzeiro, which, on April 16, 1878, featured a review signed by Eleazar, the pseudonym of Machado de Assis, on the cover of the newspaper. De Assis classified the naturalism and lack of sexual filter present in the novel as "reminiscences and allusions of an eroticism that Proudhon would call omnisexual and omnimod".[1] In 1959, omnisexual appears in poet Lawrence Lipton's book The Holy Barbarians.[2] The 1984 text Sexual Choices: An Introduction to Human Sexuality defines its as "a state of attraction to all sexes", It is also theorised there that every person is born omnisexual and then transitions to another sexuality, because of culture and experiences.[3] In 1989, M. Jimmie Killingsworth reviewed Charley Shively's book, Drum Beats: Walt Whitman's Civil War Boy Lovers. She called for "a revisionist biography of Whitman that does not assume that the poet was heterosexual...or that he was asexual or omnisexual...or passively homoerotic," but that which talks about his identity as a "gay writer", saying that Shively portrays Whitman as "a promiscuous, omnivorous gay lover." She later praised a book by Jonathan Ned Katz, entitled Love Stories: Sex between Men before Homosexuality, as an example of such a biography.[4][5] In 1993, omnisexuality is mentioned in the biography/memoir And then I met this woman: previously married women's journeys into lesbian relationships it is stated that "last time I talk to her, she said she was omnisexual".[6]

- I mean, yeah probably. I think there are STILL some good sources there, but this definitely needs to be improved and stronger before added back in. The only part of this I worked on, from what I recall, apart from fixing links, was the fourth paragraph. In solidarity - Historyday01 (talk) 20:57, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
Did you know nomination
[edit]- The following is an archived discussion of the DYK nomination of the article below. Please do not modify this page. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as this nomination's talk page, the article's talk page or Wikipedia talk:Did you know), unless there is consensus to re-open the discussion at this page. Track your hook after promotion. No further edits should be made to this page.

- @Dudzcar: Not a review, but the QPQ for Human settlement was used at Template:Did you know nominations/Murder of Dandara dos Santos. Another QPQ is needed for this nomination. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 16:44, 13 July 2026 (UTC)
- Also, I think the hook is the wrong side of WP:DYKFICTION. (I had planned on drivebying this with a hook to do with some people identifying as this because they considered the word 'bisexual' offensive, but the source doesn't quite support that.)--Launchballer 21:13, 13 July 2026 (UTC)
- I am not really in with the DYK section of Wikipedia but I feel like a simple definition of omnisexuality could make for a decent fact. Most of the population does not really know what many of the more niche sexualities mean. ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 23:35, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

Question: is it still renominable? Dudzcar (talk) 21:15, 17 July 2026 (UTC)
Five days after the nominator has been notified (with acknowledgement) of the requirement for an unused QPQ, none has been supplied and thus I am marking this nomination for closure as incomplete. Dclemens1971 (talk) 14:39, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Dclemens1971, Quxyz, and Dudzcar: I did say I would have drivebyed this and I'd rather this run, so I'm going to donate Charolais (cheese). As for the hook, ALT1: ... that a test determining the ethics of having sex with a fictional non-human character is named after a fictional omnisexual? springs to mind, but I'll have a proper look when I'm back from shopping. (A definition hook was quibbled over at WT:DYK in the last week, but I'll hear it anyway.)--Launchballer 15:25, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
Full review needed now that a QPQ has been provided. Dclemens1971 (talk) 02:05, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- Also not a full review, but I am not sure that Bryan Fuller meant to refer to omnisexuality, the modern label and term of art for a specific sexual orientation with a specific pride flag, as opposed to a general idea of being "omni-sexual". To me, they're not exactly the same thing. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 19:02, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- Theleekycauldron but ALT1 does not mention (pictured) or anything, so I guess it goes flaglessly. Unless we have another ALT as proposed by Quxyz: ALT2: "...omnisexuality (pictured) means attraction to all genders?". Dudzcar (talk) 05:44, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
- I would add in a lack of genderblindness to differentiate between pansexuality. "...that some people declare themselves to be omnisexual (pride flag pictured) to indicate a preference for certain genders in contrast to pansexuality?" ✶Quxyz✶ (talk) 13:47, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

approving ALT3 by Quxyz, since I'm not the nominator anymore. Dudzcar (talk) 21:50, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
Just because you didn't propose the hook does not mean you can sign off on it. The article was still something you nominated, and a neutral reviewer needs to sign off on the proposed ALT. Also noting that concerns have been raised about the reliability of the sources at WT:DYK. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:50, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
Crisco 1492, it appears that Dudzcar approved a hook they actually wrote based on an angle suggested by another user. Dudzcar, please do not do this again. Requesting independent reviewer. Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:53, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- Dclemens1971, I put the question mark due to the concerns about sourcing you raised at WT:DYK. Are those no longer an issue? — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:54, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- No, I believe they are an issue. (Comments on reliable sourcing problems here for reviewer's purposes.) I was just leaving the icon to catch the attention of a new reviewer. Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:57, 17 August 2026 (UTC)

Did it fix?Dudzcar (talk) 02:38, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- I believe I've fixed this. I hadn't realised Dudzcar had made me the nominator, and had wondered what @Dclemens1971: was on about when they said I was involved. I've put Dudzcar back as the nominator and have helped myself to a DYKmake credit. I've also removed the six references mentioned by Dclemens1971 in their review; while I have used Cosmopolitan many times without complaint including on several GA biographies of living porn stars, this particular article appears subpar. My hook suggestion is ALT5: ... that some people think that omnisexuality (flag pictured) is distinct from pansexuality?. How's it looking now?--Launchballer 11:22, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
