Field of view

I suspect that the concept of field of view which is used in the article is somewhat ambiguous. For standard cameras, field of view is measured from the optical axis, so 360 field of view would mean a full sphere. For omnidirectional cameras field of view can be measured around the optimal axis, so a 360 field of view means that the camera sees in all directions around the optical axis (360 degree azimuthal coverage) but not necessary a large field of view in the altitude range, ie not a full sphere. Based on the image samples (the selfie and the corridor), in my opinion, they are 180 degree shots, not 360. Does that need correction? I bet, yes. If you see a single plain (e.g., from the ceiling) now matter how wide it is still 180 degree, a half sphere. If you measure 360 around the optimal axis, all cameras are 360 since they are forming a cone: a triangle shape rotated around a single axis in 360 degree. If you see what is behind you, that is 360. But, at the end of day it is all about how you define what. In my opinion, no such thing as 360 degree selfie. A 360 degree shot is always a selfie if you took the picture by hand on site it since you must be on the image somewhere. 109.77.23.103 (talk) 12:06, 21 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
