Origin of "red" in name of bridge

I was wondering why this structure was called the "Red Bridge" but didn't find a published reference explaining so. I think that the "red" in the name might have come from the color of its towers, differentiating it from the white towers of the Lower Suspension Bridge (also known as the White Bridge). Bridgemeister has two photos of the Lower (White) Turners Falls Suspension Bridge that shows its white towers. I found one newspaper article from December 30, 1878 that discusses the painting of the Upper Suspension Bridge, but source this says that the towers would be painted dark brown. -Transpoman (talk) 10:32, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
