Just thought I'd make the comment that Marine Corps Officer Candidates ought be represented on here also.

Pay

The officer candidates are paid as an E-5, not an E-6. As a current officer candidate myself, I certainly wish that we were paid as E-6's, but alas, we're only sergeants. Erudy 15:27, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Actually, Army Officer Candidates are paid as E-6's. Army ROTC cadets are paid as E-5's. I was a ROTC cadet for a little while before I switched to OCS (where I graduated and received my commission.) RLMorgan (talk) 23:49, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

When did you go through? I went through Army OCS and as of my graduation a year and a half ago, the pay was still E5Erudy (talk) 07:15, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Commissioning Process

As far as the Army is concerned, when you graduate OCS and accept your commission as a 2LT, you are actually discharged from your enlisted contract and appointed as an officer. So, it's not simply a "promotion" from E-whatever to O-1. I corrected this for the U.S. Army section but I'm not sure about the other branches that still say "promoted". Maybe someone from these other branches could clarify and correct (if needed)? RLMorgan (talk) 01:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

India

Merger proposal

Both articles talk about the same thing, which is describing would-be officers. As Officer Candidate is the more common name and the one used in the NATO STANAG 2116 document, Officer Designate should be merged with this page. Moreover, the term OF(D) used in the officer designate article is no longer used by NATO.--Officer781 (talk) 06:31, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
