Misspelled name
[edit]Why does this article persistently misspell Odessa? Quality Assurance is crap around here. 174.93.12.36 (talk) 14:26, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Misspelled how? The article lede clarifies that both Odesa and Odessa are correct and the former is preferable. cyclopiaspeak! 14:28, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- On the subject, the article lede note notes that the spelling "Odessa" is "depreciated." They meant "deprecated." Would someone with edit powers please correct this malapropism? 2600:4040:B69E:CE00:30C1:9082:182F:7396 (talk) 06:14, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
Done Rsk6400 (talk) 09:23, 4 April 2025 (UTC)- Since Odesa is under Ukrainian authority, it should be spelled according to rules of Ukrainian language. Conidering the fact that Ukraine has only one state language it cannot be brought up for a debate. If any other country claims the rule over this city, it shall be named however they like. Until then, official name of the city is "Odesa". ~2026-16786-54 (talk) 13:35, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
- Uh, no. What matters is what's used more often in the English language. Odessa is, by far. Odesa doesn't even make sense as an English spelling, it would be pronounced O-DEE-sa. ~2026-23256-64 (talk) 17:59, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- English has no consistent pronunciation rules, especially when dealing with proper nouns of non-English origin. Xomegas (talk) 02:59, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- Name Odessa came from Greek. According this logic you also have to rename Odysseus to Odiseus. But https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Одіссей is spelled with ‘ss’ even in Ukrainian wiki. ~2026-38270-61 (talk) 08:02, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
- The thing is, you don't have to use Odesa in your own life... this is a Wikipedia thing. My company uses Odessa. Heck it also uses Burma, and Bombay for that matter. We do use Kyiv but we always pronounce it Key-ev... like everyone else. Only news people call it Keeve... not even Ukrainians pronounce it that way. But bottom line is, let Wikipedia call things however they want. Teachers ignore it anyway. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:13, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

Good morning.
I would like to include another sister city of Odessa in Ukraine, which is the Municipality of Nova Odessa, located in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
They signed the sister city agreement last year.
Therefore, I would like to make the following inclusion:
Nova Odessa, Brazil 2025
Link about the sister city:

Western ?
[edit]I don't like qualifying media as "Western" because in a context highly influenced by Russian propaganda this may be understood as "media hostile to Russia". Rsk6400 (talk) 06:29, 28 May 2026 (UTC)
- I did a search for Western in our article, and I found zero "Western media". Lova Falk (talk) 08:27, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
