Talk:Ocular micrometer

Don't delete the page. The thing exists and is popular enough.

Ocular micrometer is used in biology laboratories, to measure the actual size of the things observed under microscope. It is also used to determine the magnification of camera-lucida sketches and photographs.

However an ocular micrometer can not be considered for calculations until and unless it is standardized with a "stage-micrometer" (No wikipedia articles found) for a particular microscope and a particular set of lenses.

@RIT RAJARSHI: I don't see where someone has called for this page to be deleted at this time. It does have a maintenance tag indicating that the article is not sourced and it has been there since 2009. If you are aware of independent reliable sources indicating how this device is notable, please offer them. Something existing and being popular does not merit that thing an article on Wikipedia; it must be notable. If there are no sources available, the future of this page will need to be discussed. 331dot (talk) 11:31, 22 October 2017 (UTC)

@331dot: Thank you for your response. I did not meant someone told they will delete the page. Just there is some chance of deletion, so I expressed my opinion about this article. However currently I don't have any authoritative reference about stage and ocular micrometer except a few practical-books. Proposal for general topic "Micrometer (microscopic measurement tool)" and then merging both "Stage micrometer" and "Ocular micrometer" into same article.

Stage micrometer and Ocular micrometer are often used together as a pair, where the stage micrometer is first used to calibrate the ocular micrometer (under a very specific set of Objective lens and Eye piece lens of a specific microscope), and the ocular micrometer is then used at the exact same setup (But the stage micrometer is then replaced by the specimen mounted on a microscopic slide and cover-slip using mounting medium, and the microscopic image is drawn using a camera lucida).

The article is still in a Stub status, and there is no article yet for stage micrometer. Therefore, merge of the two topics may improve both amount of article content, as well as a bigger and meaningful picture of the topic. RIT RAJARSHI (talk) 19:57, 29 November 2025 (UTC)
