Saxon Colors
[edit]I saw a few references to Saxon as "Black Knights" in addition to Knights

- Interesting, I found this passage from 1963 that said their colors were red and white:

- Ah great find! Yeah, the "Black Knights" theme confused me too. They also used red and white in their Homecoming in 1960: https://www.classmates.com/siteui/yearbooks/4182819661?page=27&searchTerm=white
- Likely it was a one off. Badgeractuary (talk) 23:15, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
Origins and Roster Updates
[edit]Originally called the "Bayfield County Athletic League"...https://www.newspapers.com/image/1241109372/?match=1&terms=%22cable%20high%20school%22%20basketball Port Wing (eventually becoming South Shore) was in the league in 1937. So was Drummond. This would have been the initial roster of schools.
Saxon admitted to league for 1937-1938 season: https://www.newspapers.com/image/1241111575/?match=1&terms=%22bayfield%20county%20athletic%20league%22
Name of "Indianhead League" appears to have come with 1938 season. Note no Drummond in this roster: https://www.newspapers.com/image/1241098717/?match=1&terms=%22indianhead%20league%22%20ondossagon
No Port Wing in 1940-41 season, but includes Mellen: https://www.newspapers.com/image/1240992888/?match=1&terms=%22indianhead%20league%22%20ondossagon Badgeractuary77 (talk) 23:50, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- Update: Indianhead confirmed new name for 1937, after admittance of Saxon: https://www.newspapers.com/image/1241308940/?match=1&terms=saxon%20bayfield%20county%20athletic Badgeractuary77 (talk) 11:30, 10 October 2025 (UTC)
Suspension During War?
[edit]This might explain why the Indianhead had scant records in the early 40s: https://www.newspapers.com/image-view/1241095855/?match=1&terms=%22port%20wing%22%20%22indian%20head%20league%22.
Makes this article confusing then: https://www.newspapers.com/image-view/54566512/?match=1&terms=mellen%20%22indianhead%22 Badgeractuary77 (talk) 22:27, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
