Color coding?

The table of current conference members has some color coding (gray, green, gold, etc.) but doesn't explain what the colors signify, if anything. Anyone know what the meaning is, or should that be removed for clarity? Duncan1800 02:35, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Proposal to make timelines more consistent

I noticed that conferences in List of NCAA conferences have articles, usually including a membership timeline. While some of the decisions made for each conference make some sense, there is a wide variety of styles for the various timelines, particularly involving color choices, but also other matters of style that could be more consistent.

for example, a school with a yellow bar means:

• An associate member in one sport (if part of the BE)
• A former member of the conference (in the SEC)
• A future member of the conference (in the SEC and Big West)
• A football only member (in the Sun Belt)
• A team that has moved to another conference (in the WAC, NEC)
• A full member of the Big Sky

Some graphs have captions, some do not, and none are centered. To see the variety of styles, review Current conference timelines

I think it would be worth discussing how best to provide some measure of consistency, recognizing that there may be legitimate reasons for some differences from a standard presentation (for example, some conferences show the name of the new conference for former members. In some cases, this makes sense, in other, it may not.)

I've produced a draft of how the timelines would look with some consistency added. Please see Draft proposal of conference timelines.

I propose a discussion to see if there is consensus on improving the consistency.

Because it would not be practical to have this discussion on each and every conference talk page, I suggest centralizing this discussion at the Talk page of Project College football SPhilbrick(Talk) 02:19, 12 March 2012 (UTC)

Monmouth and Quinnipiac is leaving the NEC

The conference has issued a statement (http://www.northeastconference.org/news/2012/12/14/GEN_StatementOnRealignment_12_14_12.aspx) that Monmouth and Quinnipiac is leaving the conference. challenge to notability

Hi, I removed the notability tag which you added to this article without specifying a particular reason to which folks could respond. This is a NCAA Division I (FCS) conference per this and we have articles for all of Division I conference and even the lower Division II and Division III level (see Category:NCAA conferences). Hi UW Dawgs (talk) - My concern with this article is that its sources, including the one you provide as evidence for notability, stems from primary or trivial websites. The article does not provide any links from trusted 3rd party sources supporting notability. If you have found any such links, could you include them in the article? Hi, I don't disagree with the refimprove tag, however I am going to decline to perform the trivial google search which shows GNG for this article as peer to the sibling articles within the 13 FCS conferences (Division I - FBS and Division I - FCS are the two highest levels of NCAA athletics, followed by Division II and Division III and we have longstanding, interlinked, and sourced articles for all related aspects). Conference name change

The Northeast Conference changed its name to the NEC on October 2, 2025. In accordance with WP:NAME, it may become appropriate to change the name of this article to NEC (college sports conference) or something similar, if reliable English-language sources refer to the conference by its new name and do not simply use NEC as an abbreviation for the old name. I anticipate several sources will inform their readers of the change by writing things such as, "the NEC, formerly the Northeast Conference," or "the former Northeast Conference, now simply known as the NEC." Those would indicate recognition by reliable sources that the conference now has a new name. Taxman1913 (talk) 18:49, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
