New article for Northampton parish

I was wondering if it might be a good idea to create an article for the civil parish of Northampton, (e.g. Northampton (civil parish)) as it is defined differently from the urban area/former borough which this main article is predominantly about. Can you give some idea of what would be included in the proposed article to help assess whether there would be much overlap with the existing Northampton article. I was thinking of demographic data pertaining to the parish like population, which is different from the urban area, the fact it's the most populous parish, some history of why it came about etc. G-13114 (talk) 17:46, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

I kind of see what you're getting at. There's a significant difference between the urban area's population and that of Northampton parish. However, it might be confusing to have separate articles for Northampton and Northampton (civil parish). The population of the parish is noted in the Northampton Town Council article and relevant demographics could be added in as well; both are of direct relevance to the council article. The usual convention is to have 1 single article for a parish and a settlement of the same name even if the boundaries are different. Districts are normally split but not parishes. Just add the population data for the parish in this article. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:14, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

History:Medieval

The names of the streets: viz "Corn Hill, Malt Hill, Mercers Row, Gold Street, Sheep Street and Horse Market." Gold Street,Sheep Street and Horsemarket are correct. I have changed the name "Mercer Row" by adding an s. This agrees with modern usage if "Mercer Row" was an old form or a typo. Either way it seems OK to add the s.. "Corn Hill" and "Malt Hill" do not exist now under those names,if they ever did. I don't have the source. Do they appear in it? If so we perhaps ought to add what they are now called,if there is a source for that . Spinney Hill (talk) 11:46, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Since I posted the above I have found another source which I have cited. I have replaced "Corn Hill" and "Malt Hill" with two more familiar names which are still used and are in the new source. Corn Hill and Malt Hill are also in the new source but the description as to where they were is ambiguous. The can be re-instated if the information about where they were can be found.. They were near the Market Square but they may have been seperate streets or the names of sides of the Market Square. Spinney Hill (talk) 12:17, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Tramways

The tramways were electrified in 1903 or 1904. Both years appear in the article. Both years appear to be sourced. The article on the tramways suggest electrification of the tracks started in Jan 1904 although the power station was already ready. Can anybody assist. One source may have dissappeared . The source for 1903 is still on line but appears to be wrong. I don't have access to the newspaper site which apparently gives 1904. Can anybody assist? In what sense is this club "inclusive" and is it really the first?. The link no longer leads to a page with any reference to the club,or I think Rugby. Spinney Hill (talk) 09:37, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
