Did this person actually exist?

The cited text, History of Ancient Woodbury, Connecticut, lists Nonnewaug as being the name of a village. Seems like there's a vague legend but no concrete information. Yuchitown (talk) 21:04, 24 August 2025 (UTC)

Yes, I read the mentions of Nonnewaug in History of Ancient Woodbury, Connecticut, which says it's a village and then discusses a legend where a chief is buried. Yuchitown (talk) 23:55, 24 August 2025 (UTC)

Neither Nunnewake, Nonnewaug, or a snowshow is mentioned in The history of the town of Litchfield, Connecticut, 1720-1920, which was used as a reference with no page number listed. Then the only mention of Nonnewaug in The Town and People: A Chronological Compilation of Contributed Writings from Present and Past Residents of the Town of Woodbury, Connecticut is a poem mentioning a chief by this name. Clearly, Nonnewaug is a river and a waterfall, but everything else seems like a legend. Yuchitown (talk) 23:59, 24 August 2025 (UTC)

This article is almost all composed of direct quotes from the sources, as they are public domain material (besides the contemporary news source). I don't understand how you are not seeing the referenced material. Specifically, please see page n56 of the Litchfield source, where the direct quote is "Nonnewaug's mark is quite plainly a snowshoe." Mbdfar (talk) Mbdfar (talk) 01:15, 25 August 2025 (UTC)

See Volume II of History of Ancient Woodbury, Connecticut for some of the quoted text. I linked the Archive.org edition instead of the CGA website, but this was misguided as the CGA upload is the second volume which has more pages and information. I will update the references tomorrow.
