I was born in Topeka, Kansas in 1951, where my father worked installing the cameras on TVs that recorded the programs that people watched, to generate the Nielsen ratings. Shortly after that our family moved to Chicago. My father worked for Arthur "Art" Nielsen Sr. in Evanston, Illinois just north of Chicago where AC Nielsen was then located. Dad moved on to network TV advertising work in Chicago around 1957. One of his ad agency clients was Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana whose products he advertised included Alka-Seltzer and One-a-Day multiple vitamins.
