Contradictory information about Marie Madeleine Raclos, his wife

On the one hand, this Wikipedia article asserts that Nicolas Perrot's wife Madeleine Raclos was a fille du roi, one of the several hundred unmarried young women whose passage to New France was paid by the French state in order to alleviate the severe shortage of marriageable women in the early colony.

On the other hand, this Wikipedia article also says "More can be read about the [Nicolas Perrot and Madeleine Raclos] couple on the French-Canadian Genealogist website", linking to the well-documented article at https://www.tfcg.ca/nicolas-perrot-and-madeleine-raclos -- an article that states at some length that while Madeleine Raclos was long thought to have been a fille du roi, in fact recently-discovered notarial evidence shows that she was not. Her passage to New France was paid by her family, not by Louis XIV. And she is not included on the canonical fille du roi list maintained by the Programme de recherche en démographie historique (PRDH) of the University of Montreal.

I would suggest that this article be altered to delete the assertion that Madeleine Raclos was "a participant in the French Files de Roy movement". Leaving aside the fact that this passage misspells "Filles" ... pnh (talk) 18:01, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
