History
[edit]The title of the last subsection on history needs to be updated. Also, actions, such as the termination of elections in July 2026 need to be added. https://news.google.com/read/CBMiqgFBVV95cUxPeTRlQmFOMGRsbzc3cjdnU2Z4WmoyelE2R3ZVVU91QVBTTHNlNkRzTFJIZEFPNk15QjZ4aTI2RktPemxPZEI3Rmd3UVVaOEtvdVlLNHZnbHhkWmhZTTd0QUJweHlacmQ5WmNXNTExNGJmeXlJdTFZS2hySXYyZGxqOVJvRG02ZmVZbVdQQTlmeDhvOHY5TEtmekZWdnVnZ0J1WVlpRnFydV81Zw?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen, https://news.google.com/read/CBMivwFBVV95cUxQcDZmRUJSMUhpV3BadDYzTzhwTHY5YWxrOW16di1Ud1NEZE9hekU0WUtITGdUVkFlU1A0b2lGZ0FhVno0bVhVQjBMbDZ4UHFxYk9JRzh2cFYzaW0zLTdMYnZ2bzd2aHlBUnVnYlpUSnBSRGNxSXc3LXhaUExldjMzT25WdkM2UTJEQ0NHcVpSRmxsSkNpOXp1aEtPUkpHbDNXOHRUMjFDVzdiYTYzYmhnQlpHSTlaOGxKZkNXTDRURQ?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen, https://news.google.com/read/CBMirAFBVV95cUxPS0pLZll2QUtHRzJ5Skt5SWlkRFN4ZXQtSHFIVTYzRmhzck1CeEdxalltMi1GaGhSc01nSVV1UkpKUXNCXzZyZVBKSEFMZkp6WWtfR1lvVW9aSkgwbHoyTDM2VEtqR2M0UXkyMjF1V25KZTNnTGJYd1VaOXY3TnRYYy11cmtoY2dQUUlxOGJYSkhiNUJhQ2YtNTFLY0lzVHRtWmVMYWdXTDdtMEt4?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3AenKdammers (talk) 18:08, 22 July 2026 (UTC)

Change in Politics
[edit]In light of recent news regarding the indefinite suspension of elections, would it be safe to assume that Nicaragua has now effectively become a one party state? A common trend among one party states is that elections are either suspended or outlawed, or they are very tightly controlled to ensure that the ruling party is the only real option (like how it is in China). After all, if you terminate or heavily restrict elections, opposition parties have no real way to run and make a difference, meaning the ruling party effectively gets to call all the shots with there being no real competition anymore. Now that Nicaragua has terminated elections indefinitely, it can be safe to assume that Nicaragua will, from this point forward, be a one-party state where Daniel Ortega and the FSLN have complete control over the runnings of the Nicaraguan government and its policies, and the termination of elections will also possibly create a situation where, for all intents and purposes, Ortega is now president for life, meaning he will continue to rule Nicaragua until he either dies or is deposed. If such a shift is confirmed, it might be wise to change the government type in the info box to reflect this. However, things can still change since this shift has only very recently happened, so we'll just have to take everything with a grain of salt. ShayminLover (talk) 01:03, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Do you propose any specific change in regard to the infobox? The infobox is saying "government_type = Unitary diarchic presidential socialist republic[a] under an authoritarian dictatorship[b]"~2026-40166-38 (talk) 03:16, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Even North Korea has nominal elections. "xx republic under xx dictatorship" would not be appropriate for a regime that has abolished elections de jure. NekawaH (talk) 04:01, 30 July 2026 (UTC)
- We'll discuss it at that time if they actually do that. Legislation is being drafted in the National Assembly but has not been enacted. TEMPO156 (talk) 18:24, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
