Proposal to update and expand the genus article
[edit]Hi all — I’ve been working on a comprehensive revision of the Neocaridina genus article, as the current version is a stub and does not reflect the substantial taxonomic and phylogenetic work published in the last 10–15 years.
A draft of the full, sourced update is available in my sandbox here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Orange_Jones/sandbox/Neocaridina
The goals of the revision are to:
- bring the page in line with current taxonomic understanding
- add missing content (taxonomy, phylogeny, species list, ecology, reproduction, invasive presence)
- ensure references use peer-reviewed, verifiable sources
- replace outdated external links and remove hobby-only material
- improve internal linking and overall cohesion
- add images from Wikimedia Commons for key species and morphotypes
None of this changes the scope of the page; it simply expands it to match current literature and Wikipedia norms for a genus-level article.
Feedback is welcome before I begin migrating sections into mainspace. I plan to update the article gradually, section by section, with clear edit summaries to avoid overwhelming the edit history.
Thanks in advance to anyone who reviews or comments. Orange Jones (talk) 02:40, 20 November 2025 (UTC)
- Following up on this with a quick update and a request for expert eyes.
- Since the original note above, I have:
- completed a full citation pass on the sandbox draft to ensure all references are to published, verifiable sources (no placeholder or AI-suggested citations remain), and
- aligned the structure with other crustacean genus articles (taxonomy, phylogeny, ecology, invasive presence, and aquarium trade separated and sourced to primary literature and major checklists).
- At this point, I would very much appreciate feedback on:
- the treatment of the Neocaridina davidi/N. denticulata complex (especially how far to go into ongoing synonymy debates at genus level), and
- whether the balance between wild ecology vs. aquarium-trade content feels appropriate for a genus page rather than a hobby-focused article.
- Pinging for visibility:
- @EncycloPetey: – experience with invertebrate and plant taxonomy
- @Faendalimas: – work on crustacean and aquatic taxa
- @Animalparty: – contributions in zoology and invertebrates
- Any comments on scope, sourcing, and overall balance before I begin moving sections from User:Orange_Jones/sandbox/Neocaridina into mainspace (in small, clearly summarised steps) would be very welcome.
