November 2023

Look at these edits. This guy created his own Wikipedia article.

This biography appears to be written by the subject himself (see the prior edits) and somehow it hasn't been caught by Wikipedia editors. There are virtually no sources other than IMDb. This article reads like a magazine article. Contesting proposed deletion on the basis that subject meets notability guidelines

I am contesting the proposed deletion of this article. While I acknowledge the UPE and GNG flags, I believe Neil Mandt meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines for biographies based on significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. This is perhaps just a poorly written article that needs further editing - which I am happy to take a stab at.

Mandt has been written about by major trade publications including Variety, Deadline Hollywood, and The Hollywood Reporter in connection with verifiable credits including:

• Executive producer of the 75th Golden Globe Awards (2018)
• Creator of Destination Truth for Sci Fi Channel (2007), which ran for five seasons
• Co-producer of Million Dollar Arm (2014), a Disney theatrical release
• Producer of The Last Movie Star (2017), acquired by A24 following its Tribeca Film Festival premiere
• Creator of ESPN's Jim Rome Is Burning (2003)

These are independently verifiable credits on notable, widely covered productions. The article does have issues with promotional tone and sourcing that I am actively working to correct per NPOV and BLP. I am neutralizing the language and strengthening citations. It looks like you deleted the template yourself even though you asked others to consider. So much for being respectful. Do you have a COI? You just created an account. Also, much of the text is still unsourced. ~2026-17716-47 (talk) 14:19, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Once the uncontroversial deletion template has been removed, you cannot re-add it regardless of user reasoning. I have removed it again and recommend that this article go to AfD if suitable. Vegantics (talk) 16:26, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

And regarding your COI question - I have no conflict of interest with this subject. I am a new editor learning Wikipedia's processes and found this article through the Guild of Copy Editors page. I have made substantial edits to neutralize promotional language, strengthen citations with sources from Variety, Deadline, and The Hollywood Reporter, and rewrite unsourced claims. You are allowed to remove the template for an uncontroversial deletion for any reason that you like. It should not have been re-added by the IP user once you removed it. Vegantics (talk) 17:30, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Also - Thank you for the citation review, Vegantics. I agree that the citations need to specifically mention the subject. However, I wanted to get your thoughts on a few of the removed sources:

The Variety article (variety.com/2012/tv/news/mandts-ranik-ramp-up-mma-in-china-1118048847/) explicitly names Neil Mandt and independently confirms credits including Jim Rome Is Burning, Destination Truth, Last Stop for Paul, Ice Brigade, Strangers in Danger, and The Car Show.

The ESPN obituary for Junior Seau (espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/7888037) independently names the Sports Jobs with Junior Seau series so yes its not him by name, but confirms the shows - does that need to be maybe places somewhere else and the information restructured rather than removed?

The Hollywood Reporter independently names him as "producer-director" (hollywoodreporter.com/lifestyle/style/filmdistricts-kimberly-smith-weds-producer-562220) on the personal side regarding engagement so I included this.

Do you feel these should stay removed? Or perhaps I could restructure how the information is written and include them? Up to you, again I'm new and just trying to do my best. Of the three sources that you mentioned, two of them are still in the article. They were removed from text where they did not verify the information that they were being used to cite, but they are still present where relevant. The ESPN article could be worth keeping if there was significant coverage of Mandt and his role in the production, but as it stands it's not really relevant enough to be included. Thank you for clarifying, that makes sense. My mistake, I skimmed it quickly to ensure I hadn't messed anything up.

I will focus on finding stronger sources that specifically cover Mandt's role in the productions that were removed before making any changes to it. I found a PR Newswire press release that directly quotes Neil Mandt as CEO of MANDT VR in relation to the IndyCar partnership, and a Variety review of Last Stop for Paul that mentions him by name. Would those be credible sources?

The Variety article is a good source, but the press release should be avoided if possible. Content written by the article subject about themself is not considered to be very reliable because it falls under WP:ABOUTSELF. PR Newswire republishes press releases without any fact checking or journalistic integrity, so they are generally not very reliable. Based on the article, it seems very likely that some of Mandt's activities will not be noteworthy enough to include in this article based on the policy of WP:SIGCOV. Thanks for the clarification on PR Newswire, that is really helpful I had more of those I found so didn't include. I went ahead and swapped both of those out. The IndyCar one is now sourced to the Indianapolis Business Journal which quotes Neil Mandt directly by name, and the College Football Playoff one is now from Sports Video Group, an independent trade publication. I also added a bunch of new citations from Variety, Deadline, Sports Illustrated, the LA Times and Bisnow that all name him directly. I am trying to only include stuff that has real independent coverage behind it. Happy to keep refining, appreciate the patience with a new editor. Im determined to get this right.
