Quebec and Australian state days

So long as Quebec is featured on this list, it seems to me to make sense that the particular days of Australian states (and the Northern Territory), such as Queensland Day, should be as well. Is there any objection? thorpewilliam (talk) 07:22, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

National Day

Missing from the article: What constitutes a National Day, i.e., how is it determined? Does Congress have anything to do with it? For example, how (and when) has "National Fried Chicken Day" come into existence, by what mechanism? Causticity (talk) 16:47, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Format

In my opinion the list of national days be separated into 3 tables of defunct states, disputed states, and recognised sovereign states for easier navigation. Is there any objections? Thatautistichistorian (talk) 01:06, 7 January 2024 (UTC)

Are they really national days?

Some inclusions on the list seem dubious at best. Is one public holiday in a country really more of a national holiday than others when none of them are specifically linked to independence/adoption of constitution/re-unification or any other national event?

It looks like some days are listed here simply so that a country, or even a proportion of the population of a country, is not left out.

Others seem to be here because they are commemorations kept in one country by not others, but are nothing to do with nationhood.

Clear inclusion criteria needed, otherwise it is just a graffiti wall that carries some people's ideas. Kevin McE (talk) 13:42, 12 July 2025 (UTC)
