POV linking

[edit]

"Russian residents nowadays are happy with their status as Estonian citizens and live peacefully alongside their compatriots.[15]"

This is clearly POV and link 15 sources an opinion piece. There is no place for this on Wikipedia.

There should be ethnic statistics from before Estonian independence, as Narva, in my understanding anyway, was a predominantly Slavic city for quite a long period of time. - Crocodilicus  Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.62.63.6 (talkcontribs) 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Russian equivalent

[edit]

Should we give it? On the one hand, Estonian is the sole official language. On the other, some 90% of inhabitants speak and think of Нарва, not Narva. Thoughts? Biruitorul 07:43, 25 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The claim that Narva had a Russian majority before WW2 is incorrect. According to 1934 census the share of ethnic Russians in the then city of Narva (including both today's Narva and Ivangorod) was 29.7%. --3 Löwi 19:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Total Urban Population* 85.5 6.9 4.1 1.3 100%* (323,007)

   * Note: Columns will not total to 100% because not all ethnic groups are shown in the table.

Also, not all cities in Estonia are shown in the table. Source: Riigi Statistika Keskbüroo, Rahvastikuprobleeme Eestis [Volume 4, 1934 census]

The HIV epidemic in Narva should be mentioned. 10% of the city's youth are infected with HIV. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.137.148.230 (talk) 13:47, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

American English

[edit]

Estopedist1 has moved the "American English" tag from the talk page to the main article with a hidden message that this needs to be checked by a "language expert". The article is indeed written using American spellings such as "favorable", "center" and "defenses". If there are no objections I propose to restore the tag to its more usual site on the talk page. @Tammbeck: rather overwrite these few words and we can delete this ugly infoclutter (= template:American English) at all--Estopedist1 (talk) 06:41, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Estopedist1 I would have no objection to that. Tammbecktalk 06:55, 4 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Merge proposal for Narva scenario

[edit]

As the person who originally wrote the content of the "Narva scenario" section before it was split off into its own article in the namespace of the redirect page to that original section, I don't have any preference on whether or not its status should change.

However, I feel like there should have been some discussion before the split was unilaterally conducted by user 2001:7d0:8331:4c80:209a:84ac:c423:dcbf, who simply gave the reasoning of "this should be an article by itself (not buried somewhere under the history of Narva)". If anything, I hope a discussion of this merger could serve to legitimize this move. – RayanWP (talk) 14:34, 15 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
