hyphen
[edit]To hyphen or not to hyphen. That is the question. I refer to the phrase 'community-centre'. In this article there is a hyphen, but in the 'community centre' article there isn't. Which is correct ? RASAM (talk) 19:10, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Phillips factory photos
[edit]Does anyone have a new link for or a saved copy of http://www.psoftuk.com/philips ? As of 26/10/2015, this one goes to a domain renewal page rather than the photo collection it used to contain. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ps2jak2 (talk • contribs) 00:35, 26 October 2015 (UTC)
Waddington
[edit]@Wainuiomartian It might be worthwhile to include some brief content about the history of the name Waddington as a locality in the Naenae area. Please review and comment. Searching for the name in Papers Past (and just selecting Wellington region papers), it appears that the name was in widespread use in 1945 -1948, including Waddington School. However, from these sources, and it appears that town planners recognised in 1947 the problem with the name Waddington being the same as a locality in Canterbury, and moved for it to be dropped, leaving the area to be called Naenae. I have not yet found reference to when (or if) the name Waddington was officially dropped by the NZGB (leaving only the street Waddington Drive). This source describes a proposal to change the name of Waddington School . So far, I have not found any sources mentioning Waddington School after 1948._Marshelec (talk) 07:32, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- That's interesting. Should we put mention of Waddington under Toponymy? I'll see if I can find more sources. Wainuiomartian (talk) 16:58, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Marshelec I've added a section on Waddington Wainuiomartian (talk) 23:34, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
Transport
[edit]A brief section on transport seems warranted, and it can link to the article Naenae railway station. I found sources mentioning the extension of the railway line from Waterloo to Naenae (one source spells the name as two words - this spelling seems common in 1940's sources, and is possibly also worth mentioning somewhere in the article). See: and and , for the railway extension, and for discussion of the spelling. The sources back up the statement in the article Hutt Valley Line that the service to Naenae commenced on 7 January 1946. There is a photo of the railway station in Commons that could be used to illustrate this section._Marshelec (talk) 07:46, 19 July 2025 (UTC)
