Why was there a need to make a synthetic version of something that already exists? An attempt to bypass "drug" laws that prohibit the real thing or an attempt to patent and monopolize the patented version using those laws?

The only reason I could think of is for those who don't think others should use herbs to alter ones mood, but euphoria is listed as a "side effect" just like the real thing. I can see with Marinol they removed the psychoactive (and most medicinal) compounds to comply with the law/patent, but wouldn't this still be illegal since it causes euphoria? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.158.72.234 (talk) 04:26, 27 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm wondering if it's still up for patent protection, or at least is available from most pharmacy wholesellers. I contacted six pharmacies, and none of them are even able to order Cesamet.
