European affiliations and groups

[edit]

Just to clarify there is a difference in Europe between a Europarty, which is a continent wide federation of national parties, and a grouping in the European Parliament, which is a collection of various like minded MEPs. Some of the groupings are linked to Europarties but there are MEPs who sit in the grouping without being affiliated to the relevant Europarty and vice versa. NI21 have said they would sit in the European People's Party (European Parliament group) but I'm not aware of any attempt to affiliate to the European People's Party. As I said at Talk:European_Parliament_election,_2014_(United_Kingdom)#NI21: There's an Irish News article that says the party "would likely align itself in Brussels with the Christian democratic European People's Party." I've cited their manifesto that has their candidate saying, "If elected I will join the European People’s Party (EPP)". However, they are not listed at the EPP's own website. That's the Europarty website. The group site is http://www.eppgroup.eu/ but IIUC they tend to wait for parties not affiliated to the Europarty to get elected first before admitting them - do they list the 4 Freedoms Party running in London? Timrollpickering (talk) 11:57, 20 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
