The first ascent of Mount Silverthrone was not by Bradford Washburn. The first ascent of Mount Silverthrone occurred at 5:21 p.m. on April 12, 1945, and was made by Norman Bright and Frank P. Foster. This information is contained in a letter from Foster to Vin Hoeman that is archived at the University of Alaska, Anchorage-Alaska Pacific University Consortium Library (Grace and John Vincent Hoeman Collection). Washburn was the leader of the research expedition of which Bright and Foster were a part, but he wasn't even in Alaska when the first ascent was made, having departed the territory for a family medical emergency in Massachussets. Washburn did summit Mount Silverthrone on April 23, 1945, but that was 11 days after the first ascent.
