Faded from history?
[edit]The article now states, "Excepting for this mountain, however, his name has almost faded from history." I disagree with this statement. Conness was the U.S. Senator represting California who introduced the legislation, in the midst of the Civil War, that set aside and protected Yosemite Valley and a sequoia grove to the south. This landmark bill was signed by Abraham Lincoln, created the Yosemite Grant, and was an essential precursor to our Natinal Park system. Some fading. Cullen328 (talk) 04:20, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Faded from history? Redux
[edit]The offending phrase was part of the original quote made by Francis P. Farquhar, in his book Place Names of the High Sierra (1926). (See References.) I agree it sounds like a bit of a cheap shot, but I think Farquhar was speaking more about Conness's name rather than his effect. However, your point is taken and the offense or lament (however you take it) can go.
