Morecambe is located on the Irish Sea + Morecambe Bay, this needs to be included in the article. --Devokewater (talk) 01:26, 15 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Removed paragraph on Ptolemy

[edit]

I've removed this paragraph for a number of issues. Firstly, it mainly discusses Morecombe Bay not the town, it is also non-chornological (seemingly intended as an attempt to link Ptolemaic terminology to the "the Bay of Morecambe" in Antiquities of Furness).

It is unsourced, and references "original Greek maps" which I think is a mistaken reference to the Cosmographia (which is textual). After asserting that "That name is derived from the Roman name Moriancabris Æsturis" the paragrpah then states that it is "impossible to say if the name was originally derived from an earlier language" Before stating that "the Latin refers to multiple estuaries on a curved sea, not a bay".

I cannot understand where this information is from but it feels like a mix of editorialising and good faith misrepresentation. As such I have wholesale removed this paragraph. 80.229.242.178 (talk) 11:34, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
