NO. 80 MONTGOMERY BLOCK - This is the site of San Francisco's first fireproof building, erected in 1853 by Henry Wager Halleck. It was the headquarters for many outstanding lawyers, financiers, writers, actors, and artists. James King of William, editor of the Bulletin, died here on May 14, 1856 after being shot by James Casey. This building escaped destruction in the fire of 1906. Desperately seeking organizing
[edit]This article jumps all over the place, reading like it was composed by copying paragraphs from other sources and jumbling them together. This may be why there are no footnotes. I have tried to force some semblance of organization on it, but don't have the time to continue. Oscar Wilde
[edit]Jules Tavernier and Joseph Strong hosted Oscar Wilde here in their flat in 1882 during his tour of the city. It was considered one of the greatest parties of the 1880s. At one point, everyone was drunk and laughing uncontrollably, as Wilde performed an unrehearsed, improvisational monologue while talking with a mannequin. Viriditas (talk) 11:55, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
