All the Montes Apenninus and Montes Caucasus and other mountains around Imbrium were formed as part of the Imbrium impact event. I can probably add a sentence with a reference about that. Jstuby (talk) 21:59, 12 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Height of Mt Hadley

On the Apollo 15 image Mount Hadley doesn't look tall. Rather like 1,000 feet or so. Is there a scientific explanation for that phenomenon? I'm far from being a conspiracy theorist, just curious. 212.186.0.174 (talk) 06:11, 26 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

I believe there are several reasons: first, there are no objects like buildings and trees that would help you estimate the distance (and consequently the height); second, there is no atmosphere, no air, no clouds, no fog... so objects in the distance are crystal clear, without any atmospheric distortions, which makes them look closer; third, since there was a lack of water and glacial erosion on the Moon, high mountains were not transformed into familiar pointed shapes, which makes you underestimate their height, since they are shaped more like small hills on Earth.
