There is also a page Mobile Telephone System which is what the MTS link goes to on the "Mobile phone and data standards" panel. Is this the same, if so they should be merged. Colin99 16:28, 31 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have added a section describing how MTS was used to place calls. I have tried to indicate how automated base-station/operator links work without giving away too much information, although I don't know how many companies have used this - I only know that Northwestel uses it and that they had outside assistance in setting it up. That outside assistance may have been provided to other companies.

I also choose not to give more information about the security code that prevents fraud. As you may guess, I worked for Northwestel so I do know a lot more, but I have to walk the fine line between explaining the system and not giving away crucial information; I can't estimate how closely I walked the proper line!
