Some sources suggest that he was just a former member (of the Republican Guard's 25th Special Mission Forces Division), while other sources call him a former commander;

- The 2017 Enab Baladi article calls him a fighter, the (February) Syria TV article calls him a former member, Janoubia calls him a former member, Erem News calls him a former volunteer

- The New Arab calls him a former commander, ISW calls him a former commander, Shafaq News calls him a former officer, Samimi Haber calls him a former commander, the (March) Syria TV article calls him a former commander

(+ The SANA and Al-Mokif Al-Riyadi articles just say/imply he's part of the army)

(++ This all assumes that machine translation isn't mistranslating meanings)
