[edit]In soil science, mineralization is used to describe the release of organic compounds during decomposition.
My note: Release of organic compounds? How about the release of elemental atoms from organic compounds? Or their conversion into more “available” compounds or forms? Orbital 39 (talk) 01:24, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

The Soil Science definition is the same as the Biology/Chemistry definition. It simply also implies a concern about what happens to the nutrients after they are no longer in organic molecules. Thus such terms as "simple" and "availability". The Bio/Chem and Geo meanings for the term at this disambiguation page do not go so far as to imply what actual concerns those disciplines take with substances that might go through the process of "mineralization". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.211.245.220 (talk) 02:27, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
