There have been a number of references to the Middle Angles dead links to Middle Anglia on pages to do with 7th century rulers and clerics. I've started this page to help make sense of them. Centred in...

East Staffordshire? I highly doubt this. No references either. What is referenced is that Mercia was supposed to be situated "north and west". In Cheshire? Lancashire??? I found three maps showing "Middle Angles" on Wikipedia and in all of them they are far away from Lichfield. The article obviously contradicts itself.Zhmr (talk) 21:01, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Is this article right?

According to the Origins of Hertfordshire, the "Middle Angles" was a term used to describe collectively the various semi-independent small Anglian tribes that had settled the areas between the Trent Valley (Mercia) and East Anglia. This included the Cilternsæte(around the Chiltern Hills), the Hicce (around Hitchin, Hertfordshire) the Gifle (around the River Ivel, Bedfordshire). Prior to their conquest by Mercia they do not appear to have existed ass a single polity.

This paints quite a different story to this (unsourced) article. However, I'm no expert, does anyone know any more sources that indicate one way or another? AndrewRT(Talk) 23:03, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
