[edit]This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... it addresses a significant era in Australian online history. Australia's largest ISP, OzEmail, was started by Sean Howard, who previously owned Australian Personal Computer magazine (co-owned by Kerry Packer, Australia's then richest person), who prior to OzEmail created the MicroTex 666 service, which was the largest traffic generator on Australia's largest online service (Viatel, a Prestel based system, invented by the UK Post Office in 1979).
These things were at the dawn of Australia's online existence, and have historical significance. Kids today wouldn't dream of accessing an online resource at 1200bps on a 40x25 character mode terminal, yet that's the forerunner of what we see right now. The great grandparents of where we are today. There's a direct line of descent - Microtex, Ozemail, the modern internet in Australia.
