Review

Overall this article gives a lot of information and great details on what Microbial dark matter is. The lead in this article was very well put together, it gets straight to the point and tells you exactly what this article will be about. For the final draft I would add images to help the reader to understand all the different parts of microbial dark matter/ putting images with the different subsections like metagenomics, single-cell genomics and computational tools. The sources that were provided are all related to the article and are up to date. The writing was well thought out, it flows very nicely and the subsections really helped to separate all the different ways that the dark matter could be studied. Overall great article! BDimond123! In paragraph 2, I would edit the vocabulary of the phrase, "difficult to study due to difficulties." Maybe something like, "difficult to study due to struggles?" You then use "difficult" again in the following sentence, and it's just very repetitive. In the third paragraph, I would reorganize or restructure the first sentence. Try reading it aloud, it's nearly impossible to make it to the end without pausing for breath. In the last sentence of that same paragraph, I would change the "comparatively underdeveloped AND," to "comparatively underdeveloped, BUT." You are connecting a positive and negative idea, and it feels very choppy. Rather, it in comparison format with the word, "but."

In your history section, I like the opening sentences, however they leave me slightly confused. What "field" are you talking about? What time frame? The rest is strong.

I like the subheadings with the different methods of studying dark matter. Under the "improved culturing techniques" portion, the acronym "MRM" is used. What is this? Is this supposed to be "MDM?" The third sentence of the "computational tools" segment should say, "uses," instead of, "used."

I love the last section theorizing on the suggestion of a fourth domain. Arguably, this is the most interesting spot in your article for me, and it is very brief. You should expand on it!
