Not sure about the facts

As written: "He made his skills available to his adopted country by joining the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. During the war he served in Burma and Ceylon with Radio SEAC, doubling as a disc jockey..."

Can this be thoroughly checked? I'm not sure I buy this. He would have been only 10 when the war started, and not yet 16 when it ended. --Matt Westwood 10:21, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Year of birth

I am Michael Mellinger's son. He was born on May 30th 1920. He used to lie about his age when he was alive so that's why the incorrect year has been mentioned. FollyDodger (talk) 17:19, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

@FolloyDodger: Unfortunately all the sources agree on the 1929 date - BFI, Stage obit, and the James Bond film site. I agree with the above post that 1929 doesn't match up with his war-time activities. But Wikipedia only uses "Reliable independent published sources". Wikipedia:Contact_us/Article_subjects might help: if you have a copy of his birth /marriage/death certificate with the correct 1920 date it might be possible for you to send a copy of that to someone and have that accepted as a source, though I'm not really sure how that sort of process works. • This is one of those cases where Wikipedia's preference for published sources over first-hand knowledge can prove to be a disadvantage. Other than releasing his birth or death certificate I'm not sure how the entries by the BFI and The Stage can be overruled. SuperMarioMan (Talk) 23:57, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
