Non-honorary knighthood?
[edit]Since his page claims him as an American-born ‘British’ economist, is he not a British citizen? If so his St John knighthood would be non-honorary, therefore making him eligible for ‘Sir’? I cannot find anything online. ChuckDabs (talk) 02:33, 13 June 2026 (UTC)

- On the roll it says Knight of the Order of St John, and his letters are KStJ, hence not just rank but Knight. Please advise. ChuckDabs (talk) 21:44, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
- Apologies - I meant *all* ranks within the Order of St John do not confer the right to use a title of that kind. Michael's KStJ is only really reflected in his coat of arms, as the insignia hung beneath his arms and the star upon which it is placed. To be adressed as "Sir" within the United Kingdom you must be a 'Knight of the Realm', which KStJ is not. B Ben1we (talk) 14:06, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- No problem, that makes sense and thank you! That’s what I gleaned from St John’s main page but I saw some knight bachelors (I’m assuming) that were titled as KStJ, so that threw me off haha. ChuckDabs (talk) 23:44, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
