'Serious Journalism'

[edit]

Michael Herrs style of writing in Dispatches seems contemporary of Tom Wolf; (heavy with P.O.V. light on facts). His style was described by one critic at the time as; 'it's as if Dante has gone to Hell with a pocket full of Pills and a Tape recorder'. The Book was made into a Play which ran at London's Cottesloe Theatre. An Actor playing Michael Herr gave a running commentary from the Stage. This was in 1979. When you entered the Theatre you were given a pamphlet with a list of words that had translations from U.S. Vietnam slang into English. Today even a 10 year old in Doncaster would not need that list, but 'Reefer' 'Huey' 'Gook' etc were unknown in London at that time.Johnwrd (talk) 15:33, 8 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Vietnam?

[edit]

Since Herr's only major book is set in Vietnam and his experiences there were deeply affecting to his writing and life (he supposedly had a "nervous breakdown" after he came back that delayed the writing of "Dispatches" for several years,) shouldn't there be something in this article about what he experienced in Vietnam?
