Sourcing, style, and translation issues

[edit]

Eric, this is a talk page. What is wrong with my translation? Conlinp (talk) 10:41, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Conlinp: First, thanks for alerting me to the fact that this is a talk page. I have reverted your revert, and with good reason. My explanation is below. Please familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's guidelines.
  • Regarding the translation: There are many awkward passages and vocabulary that make it look like either a direct translation done by someone with an incomplete understanding of the source language context, or one done by someone who is not a native speaker of English. Examples: clément does not translate as lenient in this context, do not translate classé as classified without mentioning by whom something is so classified. Careless translations generate a lot of clean-up for the Wikipedia editing community.
  • Sourcing: None of the statements you introduce has a reference. Guidance here: Citing sources.
  • Encyclopedic style and content: We avoid using words like very, we don't declare laws to be "racist" without explanation, we don't include sections called "Miscellaneous history" with info on individual crimes and car accidents, and we avoid style that reads like a travel guide Guidance: WP:MOS, WP:NEWSEVENT, WP:NOTGUIDE. Eric talk 13:38, 20 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Eric:Thanks for taking the time to reply before your current revert. What you are saying we can now delete everything on the page except the introduction and the info box. The rest is not referenced. Thanks. Conlinp (talk) 08:20, 21 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Hi Conlinp- You might consider instead adding references for what you think is important. The French article looks to be quite well referenced, though I have not checked its sources. That's where I would start. Feel free to ping me if you would like any translation input. Eric talk 13:55, 21 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
