Arabic name correction
[edit]The Arabic name of the village, المطلة, meaning 'the lookout', is pronounced in Standard Arabic al-muṭillah, in Levantine (Palestinian) Arabic li-mṭille. The article gives it as al-Muṭallah, which is not a likely pronunciation, citing only a Rough Guide, which isn't a really good source. Should it be changed to one or both of the the true pronunciations? I can supply sources for both. Linguistatlunch (talk) 17:22, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

- "Greek" is unlikely with that given name, maybe a honorary consul, unless Jabur just a nickname or byname? Greek Orthodox is smth else.
- "to the Middle East", really, not to a specific Ottoman province?
- Which source gives the surname Riskalas, and which his diplomatic status? Morris is not accessible online, and Avneri doesn't mention either of the two info bits.

- Hi Zero0000. These were stubborn edits by anonymous user(s) from back in Jan. 2019, which you tried once to remove, but they came back. Any merit to any of it? Riskalas has a Greek sound to it, but Google has zero hits for such a man, and if it's picked up from a Hebrew source, the vocalisation can be made up, and made up in a very faulty way.
- The person is interesting, in the same way as the Sursock family is, so it's worth finding out more about this Mr Jabur. Arminden (talk) 11:26, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

- I see Riskalas as an existing Lebanese family name. However I can't find any mention of a historical Riskalas connected to Metula so we should leave that out. There's a book by Silver, "The History of Galilee" that has more on Jabur Bey but I didn't explore it yet. Zerotalk 12:22, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
