New York Times style writer Guy Trebay pushes the origin point back to sometime in the 1980s which represents the original airing of Miami Vice. I've removed the category and moved the material out of the lead and into a criticism section. This idea that metrosexuality is a form of narcissism is simply a reactionary response from "hegemonic masculinities". We should not be encouraging this kind of thing.
