What does the word mean?

Can we please say what the word means? -- that is, how does mem-tes-bet-tes, a fairly basic combination, come to a rather sophisticated concept like "academy"? What did the word mean first? GcT (talk) 20:02, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

It's Aramaic, not Hebrew. And yes, "academy" is the best definition. Please see the etymology under History (In Talmudic and Geonic eras). Yoninah (talk) 21:16, 18 August 2015 (UTC)

Eeee. I had overlooked that it's Aramaic. But I don't see any etymology! (And owing to my gaffe about the language, I read the History in Talmudic and Gaonic eras three times.) I'm wondering about an earlier, more basic, concrete referent. And thanks. GcT (talk) 09:05, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Quote versus cite

In your edit, you comprehensively misunderstand the difference between a cite and a quote. A quote is word-for-word; a cite supports the information. In the English Wikipedia, we call it Sepphoris, not Tzippori. Rav links to "a word for Rabbi". Judah ha-Nasi's name is not left in Hebrew.
