[edit]"Merck got into cow collars in 2019 when it bought Allflex, a company that makes them, betting that the animal health industry would grow. Merck sells the collars and software for a monthly subscription of around $3 a cow and monitors over two million cows, or 20 percent of the U.S. herd. The company also sells ear tags that light up blue to show farmers which cows to tend to."(NewYorktimes, 2025)

Done. Infobox updates are not critical. Grimes2 17:39, 6 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Grimes2: I've closed the request. Feel free to reopen it if you want, but please remember to close requests (see the template's docs) when you're done, it is especially important when the queue is so long. Seercat3160 (talk) 07:49, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
Suggestion for update
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. Set |answered=no to reactivate the request if necessary. |
Dear all, I would like to suggest to update one information in the article related to the brand use of Merck inside and outside the U.S. and Canada as well as an update of the picture in the info box of our headquarters as the current picture is outdated (pyramide does not exist anymore) Please note that I have a financial conflict of interest as I am an employee of Merck Group.

1. Please remove the last two sentences of the fourth paragraph of the article: The original Merck of Darmstadt holds the rights to the name Merck in all countries except the U.S. and Canada, where it is known as EMD (Emanuel Merck, Darmstadt), and the life science business specifically is known as MilliporeSigma. In 2015 Merck adopted a uniform brand identity for all its subsidiaries, and the company has stressed its intention to protect the brand of "the real Merck" globally and initiated litigation against its former subsidiary over use of the name. 2. Please add the following as the last two sentences of the fourth paragraph to the article: Merck KGaA of Darmstadt holds the rights to the name Merck in all countries except the U.S. and Canada, where its businesses operate under "EMD Serono" in Healthcare, "MilliporeSigma" in Life Science and "EMD Electronics" in Electronics. Merck & Co., Inc. holds the rights in the trademark MERCK in the United States and Canada. 3. Using as the reference: {{cite web|title=Fight over Merck name sees German firm win in British court|url=https://www.reuters.com/article/us-merckkgaa-name-idUSKCN0UT239/|first=Ludwig|last=Burger|website=Reuters|date=2016-01-15|accessdate=2026-05-22%7D%7D 4. Reason for change being made: Suggestion to update the two sentences after court rule in 2016. |
Not done @Heinrich-Emanuel: For two reasons. First, the lead is supposed to summarize the article. Anything added or changed in the lead therefore needs to also be updated in the article. Second, the source you provided doesn't fully support the text. There's no mention of MillisporeSigma or the other companies. I'd find a place in the article to update the info, with a better source, and then we can change the lead. If the info is properly sourced in the body, there's no need to duplicate the source in the lead, and indeed it's discouraged per the manual of style. I marked the request under consideration with the "u" parameter. If you update the request, you can remove the "u" from the template so others will come to help. You can also ping me when you're done. STEMinfo (talk) 23:21, 5 August 2026 (UTC)

1. Please remove the current picture from the info box: Merck KGaA 01.jpg 2. Please add the following picture to the info box: Merck Headquarters.jpg 3. Reason for change being made: Pyramide distruction already in 2014. New picture shows current headquarter appearance. |

I am looking forward to feedback from independent editors. Please also let me know if you have any questions. Greatly appreciate everybody’s time for this! Best, Heinrich-Emanuel (talk) 07:30, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- @STEMinfo: Thank you very much for looking into this. In the following I updated the request. Actually, the sources for MilliporeSigma, EMD Sorono and EMD Electronics are already in the article today (sources 50, 64, 80). The corresponding wording in the article, however, isn't that clear. Therefore I added a few more suggestion to my request so that the text already in the article reflects the sources and ultimately allows a summary at the top.
History Section - 2010 onwards |
|---|
|
1. Please remove the following sentence in the history section of the article: In December of the same year, EMD Serono (Merck Group operations in the US and Canada) announced it would acquire Swiss-based Chord Therapeutics and its lead drug cladribine, used in generalised myasthenia gravis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder.
Clarification that EMD Serono is not the entire Merck Group business in the US and Canada but its healthcare operation in the region. |
Partly done The item was sourced to a press release. I couldn't find any independent coverage that mentioned EMD Serono, so I changed it to Merck KGaA to match the source. STEMinfo (talk) 01:11, 20 August 2026 (UTC)
History Section - name |
|---|
|
1. Please remove the following sentence in the history section of the article: On 7 December 2021, Merck, which uses the name EMD Electronics in North America, announced they would be investing $1 billion in a U.S. operations joint venture with Palantir Technologies to assist in solving some of the chip industries supply chain problems.
On 7 December 2021, Merck, which uses the name EMD Electronics for its North American electronics business, announced they would be investing $1 billion in a U.S. operations joint venture with Palantir Technologies to assist in solving some of the chip industries supply chain problems.
Clarification that EMD Electronics is not the entire Merck Group business in North America but its electronics operation in the region. |
Healthcare |
|---|
|
1. Please add the following sentence as last sentence of the Healthcare section of the article: In the U.S. and Canada, the healthcare business of Merck operates as “EMD Serono”.
Suggestion to add the sentence in the healthcare section of the article to clarify clearly that EMD Serono is the name of th healthcare business in the US and Canada. |
Not done Can you find an independent source that substantiates EMD Serono? STEMinfo (talk) 01:11, 20 August 2026 (UTC)

Done and I salvaged the source about the confused protesters. STEMinfo (talk) 01:24, 20 August 2026 (UTC)
I hope uninvolved editors will review these suggestions. Let me know if there are any questions. Best, Heinrich-Emanuel (talk) 13:51, 17 August 2026 (UTC)
- @STEMinfo: Thanks so much for your help with this. Here are also a few independent secondary sources regarding EMD Serono. Do you think any of these would work to implement the change suggested for the healthcare section above?
