Ancient Egypt
[edit]The Ancient Egyptian word for 'cat' was 'meow', and I think this should be mentioned in the article as a possible origin for the supposed onomatopoeia. CessnaMan1989 (talk) 14:27, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- That seems very unlikely. Onomatopoeia means the word comes directly from the sound, not another language, and the usage is common in languages throughout the world, most of which have no conceivable relationship to Egyptian. Eoghan (talk) 09:40, 19 November 2021 (UTC)

Miaow?
[edit]Should this alternative spelling be worth mentioning in the lead? From what I looked up it seems to be a rather dated and chiefly British spelling. Evaporation123 (talk) 20:22, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Never heard of this miaow spelling either, since it's dated and there doesn't appear to be any evidence of recent use for it, I'm removing it from the lede. Ericfood (talk | contribs) 02:13, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
