This article is much the same as that for Meldon Quarry railway station - should they be merged with a redirect ? -- Beardo (talk) 23:52, 17 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Only a partial view

[edit]

The article currently gives only a partial view of the history and types of quarrying at Meldon. This field-trip description gives a much wider view, talking about the original limestone quarry, feeding lime kilns. It also describes the attempt to mine the Meldon aplite for glass production. There is actually a lot of material that discusses this quarry that could be use to significantly expand the article. One of these days I may get round to it. Reinstatement of Quarry Rail Operations

[edit]

2025 - Work has started in the Meldon rail area to clear vegetation in preparation to reinstate the quarry for use. A 5 year lease, pay per ton levy paid to Aggregate Industries, will see quarry operations resume. Wiki to be updated once credible source identified.
