Why is this article missing... this was informative and should be available to readers... I would suggest someone include the architect.

I could not agree more. One of my boon companions of 30 years ago, a recent architecture school graduate, told me repeatedly over a glass of wine that McCormick Place 1 was designed by Stone, whom he deeply despised for being fascistic, and that McCormick Place 2 was OK if you liked SOM! Researching this entry, I discovered that he was mistaken on both counts. MP2 is the career high point of Gene Summers, Mies's assistant during the 1950s. Summers worked at C F Murphy, not SOM. MP1 was by the Chicago architect Alfred Shaw, about whom Wikipedia is silent. Google turns up tantalizing mentions of him, but I cannot find a potted biography. Stone only did the Arie Crown, which in my youth had a rep for terrible acoustics. In my many years in Chicago, I never heard that the Theatre was a survivor of the 1967 fire. My friend was right about one thing: that fire left us better off: MP1 was just a huge concrete box, typical of the dreadful routine architecture between the death of Art Deco and the triumph of Mies in the 1960s. Drab times make for ugly buildings.132.181.160.42 (talk) 04:22, 19 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Place, in this case, could be interpreted as a location or site designated to be used by people. Kinda similar to 'Plaza'  Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.64.1.142 (talk) 13:33, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

McCormick Place Bird Sanctuary

[edit]

I've added a note that McCormick Place Bird Sanctuary is south of the centre (as seen on Google Maps). Can anyone ad to this, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:33, 16 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
