[edit]The story we tell visitors to UVa is that the first set of lenses ordered for us were sold to the US Naval Observatory because the McCormicks were short on cash thanks to the Chicago fire, and then the second set that ended up on O Hill was 1/4 inch larger, in order to be the largest. It would be nice if the current un-attributed story was improved to have some attribution. Greg (talk) 06:20, 27 November 2019 (UTC)
